Teach Read&Write as a routine, not a toolbar tour.
Introduce one support for one learning job at a time. This guide pairs vendor-documented Read&Write for Google Chrome tools with a three-lesson classroom rollout teachers can adapt.
Start with the learning job
Open a passage students are already using.
Model one tool that supports the lesson goal.
Have students explain what the tool helped them do before adding another.
What to try, and what to notice
Text-to-Speech
Reads text aloud while highlighting the words being read.
Try it when: A learner who benefits from hearing a passage while following its print.
Open the Read&Write toolbar on a supported page or document.
Select text or place the cursor, then choose Play.
Follow the highlighted words and pause to check meaning.
Pause after a short section and ask for one evidence clue, rather than playing the whole passage without a purpose.
Lesson 1 / Listen with a purpose. Model Text-to-Speech on one paragraph. Students pause at a clue and tell a partner what they learned.
Lesson 2 / Check a word. Use Dictionary or Picture Dictionary for one word, then return to the sentence to decide which meaning fits.
Lesson 3 / Collect evidence. Highlight only the lines that support an answer. Review the collected lines before writing the response.
What to check
Tool availability depends on your school's installation, licence, and settings; this guide does not assign a free or Premium tier to individual features.
The three lessons are a teacher plan, not a vendor-prescribed sequence.
Check generated or extracted content against the original passage before using it in assessment.
Milestone Teachers is independent and is not affiliated with Google, Texthelp, or Everway. Product names identify the tools discussed.
