Manitoba Grade 7 Ecosystems Unit

Teach the ecosystem outcomes of Manitoba's renewed Grade 7 Science (SCI.7.E.17 to E.23) through ten lessons: self-sustaining ecosystems, photosynthesis, food chains and food webs in Lake Winnipeg, the energy pyramid, producers, consumers and decomposers, competition for resources, nutrient recycling and energy flow, algae blooms, and sea ice, seals and polar bears, ending with an ecosystem action plan. The ZIP holds 90 editable PowerPoint slides with speaker notes, a 91-page student workbook, a 103-page accommodated edition, a 47-page teacher guide with answer keys and a rubric on Manitoba's report-card levels, and a one-page START HERE guide. The sample shows Lesson 1's tall-grass prairie data and the sealed ecosystem jar investigation. Limits: it covers the ecosystem outcomes only and does not claim D.4 or D.6; three investigations run over two weeks; some data are older (the Lake Winnipeg catch is the season ending in 2014); it has no classroom interactive of its own (Lesson 2 links to a free lab on this site).
