Remembrance Day in Canada: Inquiry Unit for Grades 6–8

Six lessons built around one question: what should Canadians remember, and how do we know it is true? Students read In Flanders Fields as a primary source, test two sources that seem to disagree about the poppy, build a source-checked timeline of Canadians' service from the South African War to Afghanistan, learn about Indigenous Veterans, No. 2 Construction Battalion and women in uniform, and finish by investigating a memorial in their own community. One ZIP holds a 25-page Teacher Guide (care notes for students touched by war, six lesson plans with timing and answer keys, a unit check, a four-level rubric and model responses at Levels 2, 3 and 4), a 38-page Student Workbook, a 51-page Accommodated Edition with the same questions and key, and 51 editable PowerPoint slides with speaker notes. Facts come from named sources, mainly Veterans Affairs Canada, The Canadian Encyclopedia, The Royal Canadian Legion and National Defence. The unit teaches the poppy in words and has no poppy images. Curriculum links (Ontario Grade 6 Social Studies, Language 6 to 8, Grade 7 and 8 History inquiry; Manitoba Grade 6 Social Studies KC-003) are our own reading. Independent resource, not endorsed by Veterans Affairs Canada, The Royal Canadian Legion or any ministry. Not a course on the World Wars. Print PDFs and a slide deck, with no online component; the deck has not yet been tested inside Google Slides. The cover is an illustration; the previews are actual pages marked PREVIEW.
