Ontario Kindergarten Phonics | Short a CVC Words | Explicit Lessons + Decodables

A sequenced week of explicit phonics for Ontario Kindergarten, built for The Kindergarten Curriculum (2026). Five scripted lessons teach m, s, a, t, p, n and c in that order, blending, segmenting and spelling with sound boxes, and three heart words (the, a, is). Three decodable books (The Map, The Cat, and Tap, Tap, Tap) and practice pages put each new letter to work the day it is taught. Every lesson has a scripted I do / We do / You do with minutes, materials and the exact words to say, a formative check with "if a child says this, do this" next steps, and look-fors tagged with the curriculum codes. Every word a child reads uses only the letters taught so far or a taught heart word. One 47-page PDF also holds sound and heart-word cards, a sound-boxes mat and letter tiles; standard, supported (genuinely different: m, s, a, t only, larger type, fewer items) and extension practice; and an end-of-unit check-in with a record sheet, a scoring guide and full answer keys. Curriculum: Strand A, A2.3, A2.4 and A2.5; A2.6 is introduced, not assessed. Limits: independent resource, not a Ministry of Education publication and not endorsed by the Ministry. Suggested timing, not tested with a class; many classes will take two weeks. Check-in scores are planning information, not norms, benchmarks or diagnoses. Short a only. A PDF to print, not an editable file. English program only.
